North Field Prairie Home

The original home's exterior is a nod to a Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie Style home, so the owner's asked that we incorporate this along with a touch of Arts & Crafts as well as today's modern style to this characterless lower level space. The challenge with this 1415 square foot lower level was that it felt very large and sterile before the renovation, much like a gymnasium. So, with that said, we moved forward to transform the space into a substantial and robust entertainment room with unpredictable treasures around every corner. We brought an element that would mostly be seen outdoors in to create a central architectural “sculpture” that divided the space in two.  The fir pergola, which neatly houses the electronics, a three-sided gas fireplace and exhaust flue and front and side channel speaker, cleverly screens the billiards table from the TV and bar area.  So, while the architectural sculpture helped create the feeling of smaller spaces, a repetitive use of materials helped unite/unify them at the same time.  The millwork on the walls lined up throughout the spaces as to include the existing windows. This helps keep your eye moving around the space allowing you to enjoy everything it has to offer.  The tile used in the bar area is also used near the door and on the pergola.  Fir wood slats were used in the raised ceiling over the bar and then appear to run into the poker area too. This also was a mirror to the parallel pattern found on the fir pergola sculpture. Take special note to the secret door behind the bar. This is a 48" wide door with functional cabinet doors and drawers, lights and has a colored glass tile back splash and the whole thing can be pushed open with a single finger.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"Jeff has developed a strong process to help identify the needs, wants, desires of his clients for their future home. It is an extremely easy and enjoyable part of the process. Once this step is complete, Jeff's "magic" begins. He works, with passion and focus, to design the perfect home for the new owners, the lot and the neighborhood. His eye for design is unbelievable. When you're not "in the industry" it can often be difficult to completely comprehend floor-plans and blueprints, etc. but Jeff took the time to make sure that we understood exactly what we were looking and made sure we were more than happy with every little detail."
