Orono Residence
The interior of a home should have some relationship to its surrounding landscape, but this existing home most definitely did not. The landscape was pristine, but the home’s interior was not focusing on any of these natural wonders, until it went under a large renovation, that is. The transformation was incredible. The completed project not only took full advantage of the views, it was a gorgeous view itself. The style is tailored to the owner’s personality: energetic, distinctive and classic.
The new floor plan is both open yet divided into its specific areas. Walnut cabinetry, housing a fireplace on one side and plasma tv on the other, screens the living room from the kitchen and hearth space. Enjoy the warmth of the raised 42” clear glass fireplace with natural slate surround topped with a ½” plate steel mantel creating a minimal horizontal detail on the vertical mass.
Once the new modernized floor plan was established, we were then able to focus on many fun and exciting details. Indulge yourself with the new walnut slab stairs that appear to be floating with no visible landing support with cantilevered stair tread ends along with a wood and metal railing system. To achieve this clean line look we had to figure out a way to not have a carpet runner, so a special non-slip additive was introduced to the finish creating a surface that is safe to run down, even in socks, but yet visually undetected.
Wall to wall, floor to ceiling these spaces were completed with style and grace; as the homeowners once said, “When you come through the front door, and stand in the foyer you know your home.
